TYRONE DAVIS
Whether he was asking “Is It Something That You’ve Got” or “Can I Change My Mind,” making bold statements like “A Woman Needs To Be Loved” and “Happiness Is Being With You,” pondering if he could “Turn Back The Hands Of Time” or simply wishing to be “Wrapped Up In Your Warm & Tender Love,” Mississippi-born, Michigan-raised and Chicago-bred Tyrone Davis always made great use of his deep, soulful, blues-based voice to grab the listener’s attention. His recording career spanned more than three decades but it was during that magical era between 1969 & 1976, when he recorded for Brunswick subsidiary Dakar Records, that he built his reputation among aficionados of deep Southern soul. The ladies’ man once billed as “Tyrone The Wonder Boy” is one of the all-time greats and his track record of 16 Top 20 R&B hits (including 3 chart-toppers) and 5 Top 40 LPs during his tenure with Dakar/Brunswick speaks for itself. It was this era that helped him nab the prestigious Lifetime Achievement Award from The Rhythm & Blues Foundation in 1998. The world may have lost Tyrone Davis in 2005 but his impressive catalog keeps his memory alive in the hearts & souls of fans throughout the world.
