JACKIE WILSON

They called him “Mr. Excitement” for good reason. With dazzling stage moves and a soaring voice that handled soul, rhythm & blues, rock ‘n roll, standards and more with power, passion & panache, it’s no surprise that generations of artists like Elvis Presley, James Brown, Michael Jackson, Usher and Bruno Mars have cited him as a huge influence. Beginning his career with Billy Ward & His Dominoes when he replaced Clyde McPhatter (who achieved massive success with The Drifters), Jackie went solo in 1957. Over the next two decades he scored 16 Top 10 R&B hits (including six #1’s) and 14 Top 20 Pop hits (including six Top 10 smashes). After suffering a heart attack while performing on stage in 1975, he remained in a coma until his death in 1984, but his music has never been forgotten and his legacy remains strong. He’s been immortalized in songs by Van Morrison, The Commodores and John Cougar Mellencamp, and his music has been used in countless movies, TV shows and advertisements. He’s also been inducted into the Rock And Roll Hall Of Fame and The Official R&B Music Hall Of Fame. It may be four decades since the world has been treated to Jackie’s inimitable talents but his music continues to lift new generations of music lovers “Higher & Higher.”
